Sources of Advice

If a letting or managing agent is being used, they should be able to provide basic housing-law and management information as part of their service. The local authority and Citizens Advice can also provide general information, especially where a tenant or landlord needs local help.

Official GOV.UK, local authority and Citizens Advice guidance can be a useful starting point, but check the publication date and make sure the guidance applies in England.

Landlord associations often provide updates, documents, training and member advice. Compare what is included, how advice is delivered, and whether the support is appropriate for the type of property being let.

For regulated legal advice, representation, or advocacy, use a solicitor or authorised adviser with landlord-and-tenant or housing law experience. Personal recommendations can help, but the adviser’s current expertise matters most.

Keep receipts for legal and professional costs, as some may be relevant to tax or accounting records.

Blogs, forums and social media can be useful for practical experience, but they should not be treated as legal authority. Check important points against legislation, official guidance or a suitably qualified adviser.
